Jose Mourinho has grown so frustrated with Eric Bailly’s continued unavailability at Manchester United that he would be open to selling the defender in the summer, according to reports.
The Ivorian has endured another injury marred campaign, spending three months on the sidelines between early December and February.
He has been frozen out of the Man United squad during the closing stages of the 2017/18 campaign, with Mourinho explaining the defender’s absence by noting he was giving more opportunities to those playing in the World Cup – despite continually giving Alexis Sanchez and Antonio Valencia starts at the same time.
According to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, the 55-year-old, whose distrust of his players is extending to favourites like Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini, has grown exasperated with how rarely Bailly is available and would not be averse to selling him in the summer to accommodate Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld.
The report also states that United players were left puzzled by Mourinho’s handling of Bailly towards the latter stages of the season and claims that he was giving preference to those playing in the World Cup.
Supporters, meanwhile, have not held back on lashing out at their manager for freezing out the club’s best defender and opting instead for Phil Jones in the FA Cup final, which was ultimately decided by a shabby error at the back from the Englishman which allowed Eden Hazard to convert a penalty.
