Jose Mourinho is furious with Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini for not making more effort to get themselves fit for the FA Cup final with Chelsea last weekend, according to reports.
Lukaku, who picked up an ankle injury against Arsenal last month, told Mourinho ahead of the final that he was only fit enough for a place on the bench.
Fellaini, on the other hand, has not been included in any of the match day squads since coming off injured during a 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.
And according to the Daily Mail‘s Chris Wheeler, the 55-year-old is furious with the pair for not making more of an effort to place themselves in contention to start against Chelsea and believes they were looking to keep themselves fresh ahead of the World Cup.
Mourinho bemoaned the lack of a powerful aerial presence following a limp 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Wembley, stressing that the shape and feel of United’s attack would have been different had the aforementioned pair been on the pitch from the start.
There is something painfully fitting about Mourinho, following a season largely hallmarked by his alienation of key players, hitting out at two members of the squad he has always praised and deemed fundamental to his plans. Surely he will run out of people to point the finger at soon.
