Chelsea voted against the prospect of having Video Assistant Referees (VAR) introduced in the Premier League next season.
According to a report from the Mirror, Guardiola claims that City were in favour of its inclusion, but ‘United and Chelsea, didn’t want it.’
I think Manchester City agreed to it but the other top teams, United and Chelsea, didn’t want it. It’s okay, it will happen though. Not just here in England, all around the world, the referees must be helped. Today the football is quicker, it’s faster.
Premier League clubs held talks with league officials during the week to put VAR to a vote.
The clubs decided against the use of VAR next season after several high-profile uses of the technology this season.
VAR has been tested throughout the FA Cup this season but has caused widespread controversy among fans and managers.
Incidents during Tottenham’s clash with Rochdale at Wembley and West Brom’s trip to Anfield were marred by the use of VAR.
The report suggests that VAR is still likely to be tested throughout cup competitions next season. It will also be used in this summer’s World Cup in Russa.
