Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba finds it is funny how his performances are being judged on goals and assists, rather than his work in the middle of the park.
Pogba has been on the end of heavy criticism since his £89m Old Trafford return in the summer of 2016 after a successful four-year stint at Juventus, mainly due to his attitude on and off the field.
However, he has seemingly expressed that expectations of him are higher compared to other players in the same position because of his price tag.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of United’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday, Pogba explained: “It’s quite funny because we don’t judge me on the midfield part. We judge me on assists and goals and that’s the truth.”
He continued: “I can make an outstanding game, but if I don’t score or make an assist they will say, ‘that is normal’, or whatever. But if someone else does it, it is different. They will maybe be Man of the Match.”
Pogba was challenging alongside Kevin De Bruyne for the 2017-18 top assister award in the Premier League midway through January, but injuries have tainted a season which started so brightly and he now has conjured up a still-impressive tally of ten compared to De Bruyne’s 15.
The weekend’s big fixture against top opposition in Arsenal presents a great chance for Pogba to step up and show his quality like he did in the Manchester derby at the start of April.
