Marouane Fellaini was notably coy about discussing his Manchester United future following the 2-0 win over AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
The Belgian made his first Premier League start since September at the Vitality Stadium and produced a solid midfield display as Jose Mourinho’s men strolled to a 2-0 win.
His season, which begun brightly, has largely consisted of injury woes and claims that he will find a new club once his contract expires in June.
And Fellaini, speaking on MUTV following the game, refused to give anything away regarding his future at the club.
“I’ve had a few injuries but now it’s done so I start to get fit,” he said.
“The manager trusted me today so, yeah, I think it was a good performance today of the team. The attitude was great and we show it today.
“And, OK, we win and it’s good for us, it’s good for the confidence because we have a big game on Saturday.”
It was a strangely good performance from the Belgian, whose only start of 2018 prior to this game was an inexplicable start against Sevilla.
He controlled the ball with composure and guile, often serving as a reliable way of United getting the ball up the pitch quickly, and ensured United’s dominance in the game grew by physically dominating the home side’s midfield pair.
But the likelihood of him staying at United over the summer is decidedly slim. No progress has been made in contract negotiations this year and he will have a number of clubs – and, more importantly, lucrative deals – to choose from during the transfer window.
