Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marrotta has played down talk of Matteo Darmian joining the Serie A side over the summer.
The Italian made his first Premier League start since October – and just his third appearance of 2018 – against AFC Bournemouth as Jose Mourinho made seven changes to the side that lost to West Bromwich Albion.
His lack of game time has prompted numerous reports of a return to his homeland, with Darmian even noting last week that he wouldn’t turn down a chance to rejoin Serie A.
But Marrotta, when asked about links with Darmian, was quick to dismiss the prospect.
“Matteo Darmian? No, nothing has been done there,” he said.
The idea of the Serie A champions taking on a full-back who, whilst still a fixture for the national team, has hardly played for United this season is one of the more abstract out there. If they want to continue down this line of strangeness then handing the club Alex Sandro as a makeweight for the deal would be great.
Joking aside, Darmian looks bound to move back to Italy this summer having lost Mourinho’s trust. His performances are so few and far between that they look beyond rusty when he does get a chance at Old Trafford. Moving to a club which guarantees regular football would be the logical thing to do for the 28-year-old.
