Manchester United’s Ander Herrera has admitted that there remains some uncertainty over his future at the club despite beginning talks.
The Spaniard has recently become a target for AC Milan according to reports and they could potentially sign him for cheap should it be true.
Herrera was signed by Louis Van Gaal from Atletico Bilbao and has had a decent few years at the club though he best campaign came last season under Jose Mourinho’s management.
The Portuguese boss has yet to announce a renewal for the midfielder however as of yet and it could be that the club will lose him for free next year.
The 28 year old hasn’t had the best campaign this time around but has struggled with injuries and will need to win over his manager once more.
According to Red Rants, Ander said: “I am going to fulfil the year that I have left but I don’t know if I will renew. We have started talking, although nothing has been decided yet.”
Mourinho doesn’t handle talks himself and leaves it up to the United hierarchy though he does have a say in who’s sold and who’s kept.
Should Ander Herrera leave it would be a little disappointing but it could prove the ideal opportunity to invest in the midfield’s depth.
The likelihood is that Jose already wishes to do so but may opt to hold onto the former Atletico Bilbao man due to his depleting midfield forces.
Michael Carrick has confirmed retirement while Marouane Fellaini has his own contract standoff with reports linking him with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.
That could potentially mean Jose Mourinho can’t afford to lose Herrera given how he already hopes to overhaul the club’s defence.
