Man Utd star lauds Mourinho, says it's a no-brainer to work with him

Manchester United star Michael Carrick has insisted joining Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff next season was a ‘no-brainer’ decision.

The Englishman is set to retire at the end of the current campaign but will still remain with the club as part of the backroom staff.

Mourinho declared a while ago that he would love to keep Carrick on board and that the club feel the same way in order to preserve it’s traditions.

The veteran midfielder has struggled with a heart condition that kept him out of the starting XI for the most part of this season.

However, he’s recently gotten fit again and will surely aim to finish off the campaign well ahead of hanging up his boots for good.

According to the Daily Mail, Michael said to the Times: “I didn’t even have to think about it. It was a total no-brainer. Working with Jose.

“I’m genuinely looking around and thinking ‘not many lads would get that opportunity so quick’. It’s an unbelievable opportunity to learn off somebody like Jose who has been everywhere and won everywhere.

“He’s got something very special. He’s a winner. He’s got that drive to succeed.”

Michael Carrick‘s composure and vision in midfield will surely be missed with Jose even admitting he will have to delve into the transfer market for a replacement.

Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are the Portuguese manager’s first choice midfield pairing but he’ll certainly need more depth to help out.

Out of all of United’s current crop of midfielders, the French star is the only truly creative one and it would make sense to try to get him some depth.

Andreas Pereira would ideally come back to the club from his current loan spell with Valencia happy to contribute but reports predict otherwise.

The Spanish club hope to turn his transfer into a permanent one and it’s said he has no desire to return to the Red Devils as an understudy.
