West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster has reflected on his time with Manchester United ahead of the two teams facing off on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho’s side will hope to grab an easy three points in order to keep a hold on their second place that they’ve managed to stay in for the majority of the season.
Foster’s team though will be searching for any points available as they continue their struggle to avoid the relegation zone.
United will be heading into the match on the back of securing a remarkable comeback win over fierce rivals Manchester City and will be full of confidence.
The Englishman is expected to start the fixture for his team and has decided to open up on how why his time with his opposition didn’t work out.
According to Sports Mole, Ben said to Sky Sport News: “It [United] was probably the wrong time for me. I was starting out with a young family, I had a toddler and a two-year-old. I’m a very family-orientated person anyway.
“With a team like Man Utd they’re always in the latter stages of cup competitions so there’s a game every three or four days. You spend a lot of time travelling, in hotels. It just wasn’t for me.
“You can appreciate these players at the top level, what they have to go through. A lot is asked of them.”
Ben Foster joins the long list of players who made decent careers for themselves after failing to succeed at Manchester United.
Tom Cleverley and Danny Drinkwater are examples of others but the West Brom man certainly had a different experience to the pair mentioned.
At the age of 35, Foster is in the twilight of his career, though goalkeepers tend to have longer careers than players in other positions.
The keeper will certainly hope he has a better day than United’s David de Gea when both teams kick off tomorrow and he’s certainly expected to be the more tested of the two.
With the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, Ben will definitely have plenty of shots coming his way.
