According to a report from the Mirror, the FA are reviewing Marcos Alonso’s late challenge on Shane Long from Chelsea’s win over Southampton at the weekend.
The Blues came away from St Mary’s Stadium with a hard-fought win, having come from 2-0 down to clinch a 3-2 win. Olivier Giroud netted two goals either side of Eden Hazard’s leveller.
However, Chelsea defender Alonso was pictured committing a rash challenge on Long during the first-half of the match, with his boot raised and studs digging in to the Irishman’s calf.
This incident was overlooked by referee Mike Dean who, despite being within a close proximity of the aforementioned challenge, didn’t act during the match.
Alonso may not get away with his lunge, though, with chiefs at the FA now deciding on an appropriate course of action for the Spaniard if the Mirror are to be believed.
A three-game ban would see Alonso miss Chelsea’s Premier League games against Burnley and Swansea along with their FA Cup semi-final game against Southampton at Wembley.
