1 assist, 3 chances created, 32 passes: Midfielder continues to silence critics against Spurs

Paul Pogba delivered a truly wondrous midfield performance against Tottenham Hotspur to help send Manchester United to the FA Cup final.

The Frenchman endured a shaky opening 20 minutes but changed the game in one swift motion, brushing aside Moussa Dembele and firing over a pinpoint cross for Alexis Sanchez to equalise.

From then on United dominated the game and Pogba was simply glorious to watch, sending beautiful passes all over the pitch and dominating the midfield battle with Ander Herrera.

Pogba’s numbers from the game serve as yet another slap in the face for anyone who thinks he cannot perform on big occasions.

In five games against the top six this season, Pogba now has three assists and two goals. His performances at the Emirates and the Ethiad were spellbinding. He can now add Wembley to that collection.

Less than a week ago it felt like Pogba was set to miss out on the starting XI altogether. His performance against West Bromwich Albion, in the words of Mourinho, was bad enough to merit being dropped.

Since then he dominated the game against AFC Bournemouth and changed the course of the game for United to send them to an FA Cup final a few days later. It was, above all, a triumph of the man’s character – a middle finger who don’t appreciate his tantalising mixture of flair and power and skill and swagger in midfield.

You may not think Pogba, with his haircuts and dance moves and general happiness, has that sense of fight so necessary under Mourinho. His last two displays – full of confidence, execution, thrust, a will to win – show that he has it in abundance.
