Video: Pogba and Mourinho celebrate win over Liverpool in Old Trafford tunnel

There did not seem to be much bad blood between Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho as they embraced each other in the Old Trafford tunnel following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday.

The Frenchman picked up an injury during Friday’s training session ahead of the game and was deemed not fit enough to start on Saturday morning.

But Man United did not feel his absence against Jurgen Klopp’s side as Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic expertly kept Liverpool quiet whilst Marcus Rashford, following two brilliant pieces of aerial strength from Romelu Lukaku, claimed a brace to win the game.

Pogba was quick to seek out the boss, who was about to conduct a post-match interview, and congratulate him on what was a tactical masterclass against the highest scorers away from home this season.

Following the 0-0 draw with Sevilla it was thought by many that the feud between Mourinho and Pogba, who had been benched for the second time in less than a month, was insurmountable – a minus and a minus pulling in different directions that was set to explode at any point.

But with comeback wins over Chelsea and Crystal Palace, alongside calculated win over Liverpool, under United’s belt the whole landscape feels decidedly different. And that is because, well, it never changed; there has never been a problem between the two, with Pogba possibly even purposefully going up to Mourinho to show the world exactly that.

Funny how an agenda can fall apart following just a handful of good games, isn’t it?
