Ashley Young has expressed his delight at Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Premier League.
The hosts made a ruthless start, bypassing Liverpool’s high press with long balls to Romelu Lukaku, whose physical domination over Dejan Lovren paved the way for Marcus Rashford to score two superb goals.
An Eric Bailly own goal set up a nervy finish, but Jose Mourinho’s men – spearheaded by the brilliant and slightly mad Ivorian – held out for three crucial points.
And Young, speaking after the game, noted that the result against Jurgen Klopp’s men serves as a huge galvanising influence ahead of a crucial week in the Champions League and FA Cup.
Ashley Young: “The next couple of weeks are massive for us. We just want to keep the momentum going and see where it take us. This is a great game to win and we are delighted to have done that today.”#MUFC

Man United only managed 32 per cent possession but, with Mourinho’s tactical diligence at the forefront of this particular display, it was all they needed.
The hosts, having performed poorly in the first half in their last two games, nullified Liverpool at a time when they are traditionally strongest with a clear game plan executed to perfection: maintain a tight low block with Nemanja Matic and Scot McTominay plugging gaps, get the ball forward quickly, and isolate youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold and the mediocre Lovren.
And then they fought, throwing bodies on the line time and time again with the same resilience that engendered comeback wins against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
