Jamie Carragher has hit out at his former club for failing to test David de Gea during their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho’s men produced a sensational first half performance and raced into a two goal lead through superb strikes from Marcus Rashford.
Liverpool dominated possession in the second half and Eric Bailly’s own goal gave them hope, but the visitors were ultimately blunt edged in front of goal, managing just two shots on target.
And Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports after the game, was critical of how Liverpool never truly managed to test De Gea.
Carragher: “They killed the game at the end. I don’t remember De Gea making any saves. They tried to make chances but Liverpool weren’t good enough.” #mufc [Sky]

The genius of Mourinho can be seen in the way he forces opposition teams to play a form of football that doesn’t suit them, and the win over Jurgen Klopp’s was one of this season’s clearest examples.
Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay combined to shut down any route through the centre of the pitch, forcing Liverpool to move the ball wide and go more direct after the break.
And the fact that they had to rely on an own goal to score was a testament to the way Mourinho ruthlessly shut down the highest scoring side away from home this season.
