Demetri Mitchell‘s impressive loan spell at Hearts has been cut short after the youngster picked up a season-ending knee injury against Ross County over the weekend.
The left-back has been a fixture in the Under 23s for some time and impressed on his senior debut for Manchester United against Crystal Palace in May.
He joined up with Hearts in January and made a superb start to life north of the border, claiming three ‘Man of the Match’ awards in his opening five games.
But a knee injury sustained during the 1-1 draw with Ross County has forced Mitchell to make a premature return to Carrington for treatment.

The 21-year-old had started every game for Hearts since joining in January, taking to regular senior football as if it were nothing, and to see his time in Scotland cut short through injury is a massive blow for a player tipped by many to breach Mourinho’s squad next season.
He will hopefully recover in time to feature over pre-season and receive another chance to impress Mourinho, whose lack of options at full-back has been a perennial problem since taking over at Old Trafford.
Supporters will just hope this injury doesn’t prove to be a big setback for the talented youngster.
