Chelsea face West Brom in the Premier League tonight and West Brom manager Alan Pardew believes that the Blues are still missing Diego Costa, according to the Mail.
Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata in the summer and the Spaniard hasn’t quite been up to standard compared to where Costa was at last season.
As a result, the Blues splashed the cash to sign Oliver Giroud during the January window.
Pardew spoke about the situation of how he feels Chelsea miss Costa ahead of the game.
I do feel sorry for the manager because the job he did last year was absolutely outstanding and I don’t really think he’s changed too much.
Maybe the quality of the opposition has changed and maybe the players he’s had available haven’t been to the consistency he had when he won it, but you cannot fault his record and the job he’s done since he came to the Premier League.
He continued and went on to say:
He’s been a big miss because he’s a big character on the pitch and he can change the destiny of games, not so much with his ability sometimes – but with his character, when you’ve got one of those at the top of the pitch they’re very difficult to replace.
Both clubs go into the game in mixed form, Chelsea have lost their last two to Bournemouth and Watford which has raised some concerns about Antonio Conte’s future at the club.
Chelsea were forced to sell Costa after he fell out with the Blues head coach on several occasions despite the Blues winning the league last season.
