Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has admitted that he was wrong to play through the pain during his spell with a back injury.
Speaking to Movistar, as quoted by the Evening Standard, the Spaniard opened up about his injury woes and admitted that he should not have played through the pain barrier.
Morata was at risk of missing the remainder of the season through injury, Antonio Conte revealed, but it seems his recovery has progressed in a swifter fashion than what was initially anticipated.
He (Conte) is the one who bets on me and that’s the truth. At the end of the day, a great club has given me the opportunity to play as a starter and to grow.
The former Real Madrid man came off the bench to replace Olivier Giroud in his side’s 3-0 win against West Brom on Monday night and appears to be building up his match fitness after a spell on the sidelines.
That is until the physical problems arrived. I was wrong to play with pain. I wasn’t okay to play.
Morata had been ruled out since mid-January as a result of his back problem, so his return is sure to come as a big boost to Conte, who has seen his future at Chelsea come under scrutiny in recent weeks.
