Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has revealed that Chelsea have approached former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique regarding replacing Antonio Conte as the club’s manager.
Rumours have been in full swing regarding Conte’s future at the club after failing to repeat the success of last season. The current Chelsea manager has previously down-played accusations that his spell as boss is coming to an end and has said Chelsea would be “stupid” to sack him.
Barcelona’s league record in Enrique’s final season was questionable for a team of their quality but the Spaniard won seven trophies in his first two seasons with the Catalan club, a similar record to the now Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola when he was in charge of the club.
Enrique is currently out of management, so would be free to take over at the club at any time.
Chelsea face Enrique’s former team next week in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, and if Conte’s side were to be eliminated, rumours will only strengthen.
