Zlatan Ibrahimovic is drawing significant interest from clubs in Turkey with his Manchester United future unclear.
The Swedish striker is out with injury once again after suffering a serious knee ligament blow in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final second-leg against Belgian side Anderlecht last season at Old Trafford.
That was back in April, but Ibrahimovic returned, to some surprise, in November, ahead of schedule. In hindsight, it seems he came back too quickly, and Man United boss Jose Mourinho has now confirmed he’s on the treatment table again after consultations with a doctor.
Two Turkish giants, Besiktas and Galatasaray, are considering January moves for Ibrahimovic, though, according to the Turkish outlet fotoMac, via the Daily Mail. He’ll be out-of-contract at the end of the season after spending two years at United, and it seems unlikely his stay will be extended.
Mourinho and Ibrahimovic have a fantastic relationship, but if the 36-year-old is going to struggle to return from the knee ligament surgery he was forced to undergo, his future at the club will be limited.
A coaching role is a possibility, but Ibrahimovic may wish to continue his playing career for a couple years further with a move to Turkey or Major League Soccer in the USA.
Game time for Ibrahimovic will be limited when he comes back, given the £75m signing of Romelu Lukaku and the talents of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
