Chelsea player ratings: Leicester (H)

Chelsea faltered in front of goal once again, as they were held to their third consecutive 0-0 draw – for the first time in their history, against a lively Leicester City side at Stamford Bridge.

Despite the obvious attacking flaws of the 3-5-2 against Arsenal in midweek Antonio Conte persisted with playing just one out and out attacking player in Alvaro Morata, and the lack of support he received left the Spaniard isolated as Leicester sat high up the pitch, preventing Chelsea’s midfield from utilising the space and time they are used to, especially at home.

Leicester dominated possession and created the best chances in the first-half, with Thibaut Courtois making a brilliant stop to deny Wilfred Ndidi, whilst Jamie Vardy, who was looking to extend his excellent goalscoring record against the ‘top-six’ came close on two occasions. Cesc Fabregas twice tested Kasper Schmeichel, with Chelsea’s two best opportunities but the blues looked out of ideas and couldn’t find the breakthrough.

Despite going down to 10 men with over 20 minutes to play Leicester weren’t put under any significant pressure, as Conte somewhat surprisingly withdrew both Hazard and Fabregas for Pedro and Willian. Chilwell’s red card caused the Foxes no real issues as Marcos Alonso’s late free-kick was the only real effort of note in the second-half, his curling shot palmed away confidently by Schmeichel.

Chelsea remain in third, but victories for Liverpool and Manchester United could see them drop down to fourth, just three points ahead of Tottenham and Arsenal – should they also win their respective games.
