Arsene Wenger has claimed that Arsenal have both lost and gained a world class player during the deal with Manchester United (via YouTube).
After a lengthy wait, we finally have confirmation that Alexis Sanchez has left Arsenal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining from Manchester United in a swap deal.
Swap deals are hugely uncommon in football, especially one between two high-profile rival clubs.
However, this one has gone through and now, Arsene Wenger has given his thoughts on one of the most fascinating football transfer deals in recent memory.
“I believe we lose a world class player and gain a world class player,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference.
“How efficient will that work? It will be down to the performances of both players.
“Mkhitaryan has the qualities to integrate into our game. It is based on movement and technical quality. He has a good team attitude and can play in all kinds of positions.
He’s very versatile and that should help us moving forward.”
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a fine player technically and will surely be a huge asset to Arsenal moving forward. As big a loss as Alexis Sanchez is, the blow is somewhat softened by this addition.
