Alexis Sanchez will make his Manchester United debut on Friday and the eyes of the watching world will be on no other than Yeovil Town’s 9,500 capacity Huish Park.
It may not be the grandest of stages but Jose Mourinho’s men, following the disaster at Bristol City last month, will know that visiting teams outside the Premier League in cup competitions is no laughing matter.
They will be met with a compact pitch, a bobbly surface, a team with nothing to lose and a raucous capacity crowd. Jose Mourinho will not want to take any liberties.
With that in mind, here is a potential XI for Man United’s visit to the West Country including their new signing and Scott McTominay coming into midfield.
Many have opined that the ideal front four would comprise of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku, but to identify Juan Mata as the weakest link may be dangerous.
The Spaniard may not offer the same goal threat as the aforementioned quartet but the balance he provides on the pitch is often crucial – especially in games against sides that will sit back.
Placing him in the No.10 role, therefore, and allowing him freedom to roam across the pitch could, in turn, give Sanchez the chance to exploit space and make an impact at United straight from the off.
