Arsene Wenger has revealed the extent of the injury sustained by Aaron Ramsey during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Southampton (via Arsenal.com).
Well, it was far from the ideal result or performance away at Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners failed to really test the Saints backline and some sloppy defending led to a disastrous early goal for the home side.
But the Gunners hit back. Olivier Giroud came off the bench to rescue a point for his team but it wasn’t all good news for Arsenal in the final ten minutes.
Aaron Ramsey pulled up with a suspected injury ten minutes from time but was forced to play the remainder of the match after Arsenal had used all three substitutes. Now, Arsene Wenger has revealed the extent of the injury.
“He has a hamstring problem,” Wenger said after the match.
“In the last 10 or 12 minutes if we had him fully fit it would have helped. That’s why it’s sometimes a big gamble when you [make substitutions] early.”
Estimates on a potential return date vary but it’s generally agreed that he will return within three weeks. That puts the Welshman out of action for a number of vital matches in the Premier League but with it, comes opportunity. Jack Wilshere will now presumably start in the Premier League but it’s just a shame that it comes at the cost of Ramsey who is enjoying an impressive season.
