Paul Scholes has admitted he would have loved to play alongside Paul Pogba at Manchester United such is the quality of the French midfielder.
The Man United great also attributed the club’s recent improvement on the goalscoring front to Pogba’s return to the team after a two-month long absence with a hamstring injury.
Pogba returned on November 18 against Newcastle. He’s played in the last six consecutive games for United, with the Reds scoring 14 goals, a rate of more than two goals a game. Pogba’s made four assists and scored once in that time.
“I’d like to have played with him,” Scholes admitted to BT Sport.
“It’s no coincidence that United have been scoring goals since he’s been back in the team.“
Pogba has been United’s best player since his comeback. After being sent off in the 74th-minute in United’s ruthless 3-1 away win against Arsenal, Pogba will miss the next three domestic games.
That, of course, includes the Manchester Derby, one of the most important games in the Premier League title race this season. It’s a monumental blow to United, one which Jose Mourinho will struggle to deal with.
Pogba is an utterly unique player. Forget the debate over where he ranks in the world’s midfielders, but he is just unique with his skillset and combination of attributes. There’s no surprise Scholes would have loved to play with him.
These two players in a midfield-three for United could have been a truly astonishingly good prospect, particularly with Pogba ever-improving.
