Manchester United ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus over the January transfer window.
Jose Mourinho has expressed an interest in securing a left-back, pinpointing Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose as a potential option.
And the club has also identified Sandro, signed by Juventus in 2015, as a target, although former Juventus boss Antonio Conte has largely looked like the prime suitor for the Brazilian.
But according to Betstars Director of Trading Ian Marmion, United’s willingness to offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of a deal for Sandro has made them odds-on favourites to secure the left-back’s signature.
“United are reportedly willing to offer outcast Henrik Mkhitaryan as bait in order to secure the deal and are now the 9/4 frontrunners with BetStars,” he said. “Meanwhile, the Blues are now second favourites at 3/1 to finally get their hands on their long-term defensive target in January.”
Sandro has grown in stature during his time in Turin, making 43 appearances last season, and boasts an imposing, compact physique alongside a propensity for making darting runs forward and sustaining attacking movements.
Man United’s current first choice left-back is a 32-year-old Ashley Young, who will only have one or two seasons left at the top, and Mourinho ought to make reinforcing that area has main priority next month.
