Manchester United’s up and coming young star Scott McTominay has praised his teammates for being great tutors on and off the field.
McTominay has been involved with the first team all season long after impressing on the club’s pre-season tour.
Manager Jose Mourinho then decided to call him up to the senior squad and hand him valuable competitive minutes in his debut season.
The Scottsman has featured in both the Premier League and the Champions League and has continued to put in solid displays.
It appears as though he’s had plenty of players to learn from in terms of United’s midfield players and he’s hailed them all.
According to Goal, Scott said: “Even when I don’t play, it’s so important to watch the likes of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick – people who play in my position – and study everything that they do on the pitch.
“Then, whenever you go out on the pitch, you need to emulate that and be yourself on the pitch. I thought I was doing that the other night [against Bournemouth] and, as I say, I just want to progress from here and go into the second half of the season really strong.”
It’s perhaps notable that Scott McTominay only left out Marouane Fellani’s name out of the list of midfielders he stated above but it may have more to do with the way Mourinho uses the Belgian.
Fellaini has typically played further up the pitch this season as a disruptive presence reminiscent of his Everton days.
Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were all also not mentioned due to their high position on the field so perhaps McTominay just doesn’t see himself as an attacking midfielder.
Either way, the young academy product has plenty of competitors for the position he plays in but the good news is that Jose seems keen on playing him whenever possible.
Fans and pundits alike have praised his composure on the ball and good passing range, calling for the midfielder to be given more match time.
