Manchester United’s new signing Victor Lindelof was one of the few players who could come off the Old Trafford pitch with their heads held high.
The Swedish international came on at half time for an injured Marcos Rojo and put in an encouraging display despite the defeat to Manchester City.
The Sky Blues ended United’s unbeaten home run just as they did last season but Lindelof’s defending was satisfactory to most fans.
Playing as a centre-back in a two man partnership alongside Chris Smalling, Victor continued his solid run of form as he goes from strength to strength.
Supporters were worried that the former Benfica man would struggle to adjust to the Premier League but after the derby performance, fans can have high hopes in a developing talent.

Last time Lindelof came off the bench in the first half against Huddersfield it didn’t end well. He’s improved since but he’ll need to be switched on.

One positive was Lindelof. Should start the next. Utilized the ball well unlike most of our other players.

Lindelof played well in the 2nd half. At least we have a CB who can also play a good pass from the back.#MUFC

Although Victor Lindelof is a capable defender with a fair amount of pace, it’s usually his ability on the ball that catches the eye.
Manchester United are often up against sides who sit deep with every possible outfield player inside their own half so a need for ball playing defenders is crucial.
Lindelof is clearly the expert at this out of United’s other centre-backs and displayed his passing prowess once more vs Manchester City.
Cool and composed, the Swede is able to accurately pass the ball to his teammates in more advanced positions rather than just lump it forward as others may do.
Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been lauded by Jose Mourinho for their tackling ability and ‘warrior’ traits but the Portuguese manager will surely be glad to have Victor on his side too.
