Inter Milan are keen on signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January following the Armenian’s exclusion from the Manchester United squad, according to reports from Italy.
The Armenian has been absent from eight of the last nine match-day squads under Jose Mourinho following a series of woeful performances at No.10.
And Mourinho, when asked about the 28-year-old’s exile, noted that other players in the side were more deserving of a place at this moment in time.
According to Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, Inter boss Luciano Spalletti is willing to hand Mkhitaryan a lifeline at the San Siro, although would only be able to sign him on a loan basis in January given the club’s current financial situation.
Mourinho has previously stated that he wouldn’t stand in Mkhitaryan’s way if he did indeed seek a move away next month and you can hardly imagine the playmaker shirking the chance to reignite his career elsewhere after falling out of favour with his boss once again.
Last year’s enforced hiatus from the squad was seen as a necessary – and ultimately vindicated – step on route to getting the best out of Mkhitaryan but its recurrence at a time when No.10s are quite literally lining up to inflict damage over on the blue side of Manchester has highlighted the need for someone more reliable.
