A first-half masterclass from Fraser Forster saw Chelsea scrape a 1-0 win at home to Southampton on a bitterly cold afternoon in West London.
The English shot-stopper made saves from Kante, Bakayoko, Cahill and Pedro in the first-half to keep the scores level, whilst the Spanish winger also hit the base of the post with a driven effort from close range. Chelsea did eventually make the breakthrough on the stroke of half-time as karma played its part in seeing Southampton concede in added on time that had been awarded for their time wasting. Marcos Alonso’s free-kick was accurate but Forster got across and should probably have got a hand to it, instead though he watched it nestle into the back of the net.
Chelsea dominated the second-half but couldn’t get anything going in the final third and as a result, the game became cagey, with Southampton having a couple of good opportunities to equalise. The Blues hung on however for an eighth win in ten games.
