Arsene Wenger has provided a grim update on the injury Laurent Koscielny picked up in the 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Thursday night (via Arsenal.com).
It was hugely disappointing to see Laurent Koscielny limp off the pitch on Thursday evening.
Koscielny’s match was over after ten minutes when the Arsenal captain went down in an off-the-ball incident clutching his heel.
The Frenchman has suffered from an Achilles’ problem for some time and Arsene Wenger was asked after the match if it was a rupture.
“You will know that more soon,” he told the press.
“It looks like it could be that. I’m a bit cautious [about confirming that] because nobody could say that without looking at it clinically.
“It doesn’t look very good. You can always hope for a miracle in the scan that he will have but the first signs don’t look very good.”
There were suggestions that Koscielny could also now miss the upcoming World Cup and Wenger was asked about the likelihood of that happening.
“That depends on the scan,” he went on. “If he has a ruptured Achilles his chances are non-existent. We will know more after the scan.”
It was such a shame to see Laurent Koscielny’s match – and season – end in that fashion. The injury has obviously not been confirmed but given his age and how severe it looked, it’s doubtful whether we will see him in action again for some time.
