Matteo Darmian’s agent has insisted there has been no movement on a potential exit from Manchester United.
The Italian has been frequently linked with a return to his home country, with Juventus and Inter Milan both strongly linked. That has been the case since January, halfway through Jose Mourinho’s first season at the club.
Rumours have partially died down but Darmian is getting very few first team chances, and would likely have far fewer if it were not for Mourinho’s desire to rotate with the Reds still in the EFL Cup and UEFA Champions League.
However, Darmian’s representative, Tullio Tinti, has denied any rumours that still linger.
He told Pagine Romaniste: “There is nothing on the market, it’s too early.
“I haven’t heard from anybody.”
Darmian’s played just eight games for United this season. When he signed from Torino, the general consensus was that the Reds had sealed a bargain at around £12m.
That seemed to be made certain by a good start to life at Old Trafford for Darmian, with comparisons quickly drawn to Gary Neville.
Yet a minor injury disrupted his rhythm and United fans have seen far more poor performances than good ones.
He offers little going forward, is fine but not brilliant defensively, and has no genuine stand-out attributes.
Few would be surprised or hugely disappointed to see him leave. It’s odd, because Darmian often shines for Italy playing as a wing-back. But even when deployed there under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, he’s not played with the same quality.
If he doesn’t leave in January, as his agent has indicated with the suggestion that no offers have been made, then he’ll likely leave next summer.
