Juventus have been ordered to pay their former player and Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo €9.7 million that was judged to be owed dating back to his time at the club.
The Portuguese enjoyed a successful time at Juventus, scoring 101 goals in 131 games and winning three trophies with the Italian side between 2018-2021.
However, he was unable to deliver the Champions League title, which he was specially brought in for, and spectacularly moved back to Manchester United in 2021.
In another incident that will surely irk Juventus fans, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport report that Ronaldo has been successful in his case against his former club in regard to owed payments during his time in Turin.
“Juventus will have to pay €9,774,166.66 million (plus interest) to Cristiano Ronaldo, which is how much the Portuguese should have collected in taxes and contributions.
“The case refers to the monthly payments deferred by the Old Lady in the so-called salary manoeuvres and then never paid to Ronaldo.
“Hence the dispute, for which the Portuguese relied on John Shehata, Emanuele Guastalla, Fabio Iudica and Salvatore Pino as lawyers, obtaining a victory that will also cost a lot in terms of budget for Juve, who in previous years had not set aside any amount of risk for the matter.”
Therefore, with the Italian side already in financial issues, this could have a devastating effect on their summer transfer plans.
In response, Juventus released a statement acknowledging the ruling but promised, “The company, also with the support of its legal counsel, is reviewing the decision made by the arbitration board, reserving all assessments and initiatives to preserve its rights.”
In other words, this is unlikely to be the last we have heard of the matter and things could turn ugly between Ronaldo and his former side.
Despite moving to Saudi Arabia, the global superstar cannot help but keep himself in the headlines.
This can be seen when he was given a straight red card for an altercation with an opposing player during Al-Nassr’s defeat to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final last week.
