Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has given his approval for the club to pursue Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, midfield is a priority for the United boss who is keen to bolster his options.
According to Football Insider, Ten Hag has identified Onana as a genuine target and the Dutchman has already sanctioned a possible deal.
Ten Hag admires Onana’s power and physical ability and believes the Belgian would complement the technical abilities of Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.
Everton paid Lille £33million for the 21-year-old.
The Toffees have had a poor season but Onana has been one of the club’s best players.
According to the report, “Man United are keeping tabs on Everton star Amadou Onana ahead of a potential move this summer, sources have told Football Insider.”
“Onana fits the profile wanted by Ten Hag, and he has given the green light to the United board to get a deal done for the Belgium international.”
“Onana is tied down at Goodison Park until 2027 after signing a five-year deal when joining the club, but he is prepared to push for a move this summer – especially if Everton are relegated to the Championship.”
This term, Onana has made 30 Premier League appearances for Everton.
He has managed to score once and has registered two assists.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Onana would be a solid deputy for Casemiro.
