"Snowflakes": Solskjaer blasts current dressing room culture at United

Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to Manchester last night for a night with the fans.

‘An Evening with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘ (via The Athletic) gave supporters an opportunity to ask their hero a few questions.

Ole spoke on a number of subjects including the difference in personality of the changing room between his time at the club and the current crop.

During Solskjaer’s spell at United he famously shared the dressing room with world class talents, who demanded the highest standard from themselves and everyone around them.

Ole reflected on the time he spent with certain players, describing how different personalities made the perfect cocktail for success.

“The lads in that dressing room were absolutely fantastic. Keano (Roy Keane) was the leader, the one everyone looked up to,” he said.

“David May was the joker, the clown. Gary (Neville) is still the busiest and was the busiest back then as well. Nicky (Butt) and Giggsy (Ryan Giggs) were the entertainers,” he added.

Additionally, Ole remembers the tough love that was dished out at times, with disagreements only focusing the group and making them stronger.

“It was just a fantastic dressing room. Winners, who hated losing. They had a few fights, like you should do, after bad games. You had to shake each other up,” he said.

Ole then admitted there have been a major changes in the way players communicate nowadays and he isn’t sure many would survive in the dressing room he was part of.

“If you do that to the boys now, they will get their dad, or their mum, or their agents… snowflakes. Not many of today’s lot would have survived in that dressing room,” he added.

This issue has been quickly picked up by new manager Erik ten Hag, who regularly speaks on needing the correct personality to handle the demands of playing for a club like United.
