Chelsea may reignite their interest in £17million World Cup star Josip Juranovic, having monitored him under the old regime.
What’s the word?
That is according to journalist Simon Phillips, who understands Blues co-owner as well as other leading figures at the club are admirers of the Celtic and Croatia fullback.
As such, Phillips would not be shocked if Chelsea put in an offer for him amidst the impending recommencement of the winter transfer window.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips said: “Chelsea’s new owners like him already and they know about him.
“When it comes to signing a back-up option or competition for Reece James, I do expect his name to come back up.”
Brilliant back-up
Across the recently concluded World Cup tournament in Qatar, Juranovic was a solid asset for Croatia at the back, making six appearances to help guide the side to third place.
Ultimately, the 27-year-old has only recently come into the top European fold, with his 50 appearances for Celtic under Ange Postecoglou putting him on the radar of some of Europe’s elite.
With Chelsea retaining their interest, they could well get their hands on a solid defensive back-up to Reece James for a snip of a fee, given the current conditions of the market.
£17million for a 27-year-old in and around his prime years makes for a brilliant piece of business, so you would not be surprised if Boehly and co dipped their hands into the transfer kitty once more in the January window.
