United can exploit defensive disarray to destroy Leicester tonight - here's how

Manchester United take on Leicester City this evening in a Thursday night clash that promises goals.

The Foxes are yet to keep a clean sheet, contributing to a poor start to the season which has seen them take just one point from a possible twelve.

Of the ten goals they have conceded, eight have come in the second half, suggesting United can profit in this encounter if they keep their intensity levels up throughout the game.

Leicester have also been susceptible to goals from substitutes – good news for Erik ten Hag who has used a league-high 18 subs from a possible 20.

An especially difficult aspect of defending for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season has been dealing with crosses.

Daniel Amartey has been an especially weak link in this regard and balls into the box have unsettled the Leicester backline throughout the early stages of this campaign.

A recall could be on the cards for Cristiano Ronaldo as the Red Devils look to exploit this, although Ten Hag would probably still rather have Anthony Martial available for this fixture.

If the legendary goalscorer has his head in Manchester, it could be an ideal match for him to come back into, as he looks to silence his critics.

Leicester are fairly flexible in the shapes they can use but have commonly lined up in a 4-3-3 so far this season.

They did start the season with a back three, but with Wesley Fofana sold and a couple of other defenders pushed towards the exit door, it is unclear whether Rodgers will even have three centre halves to pick from by tonight.

Regardless of the numbers at the back, Leicester tend to line up with Wilfred Ndidi as a single pivot with two more creative midfielders ahead of him.

As Erik ten Hag tends to go man-for-man in midfield, he is likely to opt for a 4-2-3-1 shape to limit the Leicester midfield’s time on the ball.
