Arsenal for a number of years have been linked with Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, who has never shied away from his desire to buy the club.
Now, developments are starting to take shape. The main caveat to Dangote’s bid to buy the Gunners has been the fact that he needs to free himself of delivering a brand-new oil refinery in his home country – one that will be the largest in the world. The latest is that this could be completed in the coming months of 2021.
In some of the quotes carried via Football.London, Aliko Dangote outlined the steps that would be needed to buy Arsenal and that money is not an issue;
“When we get this refinery on track, I will have enough time and enough resources to pay what they are asking for.”
“It’s about buying Arsenal and turning it around. I’ve run a very successful business and I think I can also run a very successful team. Right now, with what we’re facing, over $20billion of projects, I cannot do both.”
“There’s no doubt [I’ll buy Arsenal], it’s not a problem of money.”
Dangote is the 206th richest man in the world with a fortune of over £11billion.
It could be an interesting few months for Arsenal if talk materialises into actual takeover money on the table. Could this be the beginning of the end of Stan Kroenke’s somewhat unpopular ownership?
