David Ornstein has revealed the two players most impressing at Arsenal as Mikel Arteta attempts to change the attitude of the players (via The Athletic).
It’s clear that a lot needs to change at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, both in footballing and behavioural terms.
The attitude of some of the players this season has been difficult to watch at times and that is something that Arteta is hoping to correct.
“Speaking to staff around the club, talking about the level of analysis they’re doing and the work they’re doing on behaviour on and off the pitch,” Ornstein told The Athletic.
“They’ve showed the players a number of videos: clips of them in matches where a player has given the ball away or made a mistake, and several players throwing their arms up in the air and being disgusted with their teammates.
“They’ve tried to cut that out and say, ‘look, you need to go into war together. You need to be there for each other whether there are good moments or bad’.”
Ornstein also claimed that two players, in particular, are standing out under the new regime.
“Two of the names who I’ve heard that have stood out and been really, really impressive are David Luiz – from what I hear, he’s been absolutely impeccable, an incredible force for good, on and off the pitch, around the club.
“Mesut Özil is apparently training fantastically well, every single day.”
It’s an interesting series of quotes from David Ornstein. The fact that David Luiz and Mesut Özil are standing out from the rest of the squad is particularly surprising.
