Chelsea are considering a surprise move to re-sign Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga in the summer, just two years after selling him for £2million in 2018.
According to Foot Mercato, the Blues are showing interest in the 23-year-old and could exercise their £12.7million buy-back option at the end of the season.
Sassuolo sporting director Giovanni Carnevalli has confirmed the reports, telling Tuttomercato he’s been in talks with the Premier League club over winter.
Chelsea can redeem him in June. We have excellent relationships with them, we met them with them before Christmas also for other operations, because we like it as we did with Barcelona, to have a collaborative relationship.
Boga joined Chelsea’s academy in 2009 from ASPTT Marseille but featured just once for the first team before departing for Italy.
The Ivory Coast international has played 22 games for Sassuolo this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists.

In my opinion, this would be a very questionable move from Chelsea when the need for higher quality players is clearly there. Frank Lampard’s current options on the wing include 32-year-old Pedro and 31-year-old Willian, but I think there are better young talents to target – namely Jadon Sancho, who the Blues have been heavily linked with.
Boga has played 46 games for Sassuolo over one-and-a-half seasons, contributing towards 12 goals, and whilst there is room for him to develop, I believe the Blues need a star who can arrive and make an immediate impact.
You could argue that at £12.7m, the deal may present little risk but similarly to Manchester United and Daniel James, he probably isn’t of the standard to be starting week in, week out.
Chelsea are in need of quality in depth after not strengthening for two transfer windows and with the squad growing older, but I don’t think Boga is the man to provide that.
