Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Crystal Palace v Arsenal
Venue: Selhurst Park
Kick-Off (UK Time): 12:30 11/01/2020

Here’s how we rate Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal players:
Mikel Arteta – 6
He named an unchanged lineup for this one which looked like the perfect choice for the opening 30 minutes. Unfortunately, Crystal Palace reacted well to Mikel Arteta’s tactics and the Spaniard didn’t really reciprocate. But the Gunners did react well to the sending off.
Bernd Leno – 5
He was fine. Bernd Leno didn’t have a particularly busy afternoon but he did flap at a couple of crosses and shots.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 5
He struggled this afternoon. It was always going to be tough for Ainsley Maitland-Niles against Wilfried Zaha down that right flank. That was certainly the case after the break.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos – 7
He was good today. Sokratis put in a good performance for the majority of this match with some standout pieces of defensive play and a few good moments in possession.
David Luiz – 6
It’s hard to blame David Luiz too much for the Palace goal. The ball took a hugely unfortunate deflection off the Brazilian to find the back of the net.
Sead Kolasinac – 5
It wasn’t really his afternoon. Sead Kolasinac got in behind Palace on a few occasions in the first half but his final ball was really disappointing.
Lucas Torreira – 7.5
Lucas Torreira had a very good opening 45 minutes. He sat back and worked hard defensively but saw a great deal of the ball. The Uruguayan moved it around the pitch well and kept the side ticking over. It was a shame not to see him come out for the second half.
Sub: Matteo Guendouzi (45′) – 7
He did well. Matteo Guendouzi wouldn’t have expected to play 45 minutes today but he coped well with this physically demanding match. The Frenchman did well.
Granit Xhaka – 7
It was another solid performance from Granit Xhaka in midfield. He covered Sead Kolasinac well and moved the ball around the pitch as he should.
Mesut Ozil – 6
He did well in the first half but Mesut Ozil’s influence waned. The German linked up brilliantly with the front three at times in that first half
Sub: Gabriel Martinelli (69′) – 5
It wasn’t really a match for him to shine but Gabriel Martinelli held his position fairly well.
Nicolas Pepe – 6
He was so unfortunate not to find a winning goal. Nicolas Pepe’s shot cannoned off the inside of the post late on to prevent what would have been a great moment for him. He struggled to make an impact on the match aside from that.
Alexandre Lacazette – 7
He did well for the Gunners. Alexandre Lacazette worked tremendously hard up front and produced a wonderful assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal.
Sub: Reiss Nelson (92′) – N/A
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (RED CARD 67′) – 5
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang enjoyed an excellent first 30 minutes in this match. He took his goal well and made a number of dangerous runs from that left flank. Unfortunately, his game will be remembered for that red card which forced his side to play half an hour with 10 men.
