Manchester United star Jesse Lingard was not only struggling on the pitch with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinting off the pitch issues were diminishing his impact on it.
Mental fitness is just as important as physical fitness when it comes to football with the versatile Englishman seemingly struggling from the former.
Lingard’s form got so bad he was even dropped from the England national setup despite Gareth Southgate being a fan of his.
Solskjaer himself is also a fan but had to admit the pacy attacker had to be dropped as he was causing more damage than good.
Lingard has began to creep back into the starting XI with decent performances and so the legendary Norwegian felt more comfortable explaining what went wrong.
According to Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer said: “He’s Man United through and through. He’s a red, he’s got a great attitude and a great work rate.
“Every one of us have things to deal with on the pitch and off the pitch and what he has had to deal with, that will be between us. It’s great to see him back.
“You can criticise anyone about anything but, for me as a manager, I have to look after these boys in the good and the bad times. It’s great to work with him.
“I had him in the reserves, I gave him his debut in the reserves against Burnley [in 2009]. It’s good to see him back to his old self.”
Lingard may be hitting form at a bad time in truth because he’s the most likely person to be dropped on Paul Pogba’s return.
The world-class Frenchman has been absent from the starting XI for quite some time with Fred taking advantage of the situation by establishing himself alongside Scott McTominay.
It would be harsh for Solskjaer to drop either one of them but Lingard making way would make sense for the team overall.
After all, Pogba playing as an attacking-midfielder for Manchester United would be devastating for any opponent.
