Key Battles: Tottenham vs Chelsea

Chelsea take on their fierce London rivals as they play Tottenham on their first visit to the brand new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This fixture is always important for both sets of fans, but recent events have added to its significance.

Chelsea, who got off to a flying start in the Premier League, have recently came crashing down to Earth, suffering four defeats in five league games.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have been galvanised by the arrival of José Mourinho, winning four of the five league games he has been in charge for.

In times of adversity is where great men shine and Frank Lampard must get a positive result in this fixture to prove his managerial character. Shock defeats may have hurt morale in the Chelsea camp, but Lampard needs to inspire his side in order to get back to form.

If Spurs do win this contest, they will go ahead of Chelsea in the league on goal difference. An alarming sign for Blues’ fans, especially as once Chelsea were 12 points clear of Spurs not too long ago.

The good news for Chelsea is that a win against Tottenham would do wonders for their confidence and help them resurge back to form. Also, there is an old saying which states that form means nothing in derbies, something Chelsea fans will hope is true.
