Manchester United great Dimitar Berbatov has insisted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shouldn’t focus on bringing in a striker this January despite some fans calling specifically for it.
Reports have claimed the club is interested in the likes of Erling Haaland and Mario Mandzukic as they look to invest in a replacement for Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, whether permanent or temporary.
United looked awfully short of depth up front when Anthony Martial got injured and the worry is if the same happens again it could derail their season.
Berbatov played as a striker at Old Trafford in the past and knows just what it takes to succeed at a club of that level.
However, despite the depth issue, the Bulgarian legend insists the Red Devils’ current options are good enough and suggests other positions are more in need of investment.
Berbatov: "I don’t think #mufc need to sign a striker in January as they have decent options up front already. Signing a new striker, whether it’s an emerging talent like Haaland or the more experienced Mandzukic, could discourage their young players." #mulive [evening standard]

Perhaps the young players Berbatov is referring to is particularly Mason Greenwood, who recently notched a brace for Manchester United against AZ Alkmaar.
Signing a striker would likely see the academy product’s minutes slashed and so it would definitely be discouraging.
It certainly could be argued the midfield is more in need of depth and perhaps the flanks can be looked at instead of focusing on the striker position.
