Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has reacted to his standout performance in the 2-2 draw with Standard Liege on Thursday night (via Arsenal.com).
It was something of an optimism-dampener for many Arsenal fans after the Gunners followed up a promising result on the weekend with a disappointing one last night.
It could have been so much worse for the Gunners against Standard Liege after they went 2-0 down in the crucial Europa League group match.
Arsenal were within risk of being knocked out of the competition but a goal and an assist from youngster Bukayo Saka was enough to escape with a point and secure a route into the knockout stages.
“We can take confidence and keep going from round to round and progress,” Saka said after the match.
“It was beautiful for me because that is what I am judged on, scoring and assisting, so to score and to make one is a good night.
“We feel we are taking a lot of confidence. In our last game in the Premier League we won, and while we didn’t win here we came back. We always keep our heads and try to get a result because we knew what the stakes were and that if we lost we could possibly be out.”
Bukayo Saka was excellent on the night and deserves credit. Much like another teenage sensation at the club, Gabriel Martinelli, the Englishman must surely be closing in on a Premier League starting spot.
