Ander Herrera has launched a vicious attack on the culture of Manchester United, insisting that the club’s hierarchy did not view the football side of things as its primary concern.
The Spaniard, in a move that upset many fans, was allowed to leave the club over the summer to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free after Man United refused to grant him a three-year deal.
More recently, Ed Woodward did an interview with Andy Mitten (friend of the site) during which he sought to reassure the club’s fanbase that there was indeed a whole department of specialists overseeing the footballing operation.
But as Herrera suggests here, those words mean very little given that, as the Spaniard recognised, the culture of United in 2019 is all wrong.
Ander Herrera: “Frankly, I was immensely happy in Manchester, but at the club, there were times when I felt that football was not considered the most important thing.” #mulive [marca, @Sport_Witness]

Woodward put a strong case to our good mate Mitten that there was, indeed, a strategy in place driven by the right minds and plenty of resources.
But as Mark Fields, President at Ford, once said, culture eats strategy. And the culture at this club is horrible, geared towards little else other than the optimal reproduction of capital for the sake of meeting targets.
