Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in RB Salzburg star Erling Haaland as they attempt to add quality to a relatively thin squad.
Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both departed in the summer without a replacement coming in for them and it was quickly made apparent it was the wrong call when Anthony Martial suffered an injury.
Marcus Rashford failed to successfully replace the talented Frenchman and United’s results quickly suffered, leaving them in the low position they’re in at the moment.
The need for depth is apparent but bringing in Haaland begs the question of who will have to drop out of the starting XI to make way for him.
Perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plan is to squeeze in this season’s breakthrough star and change the current formation to a two-striker one to make the most of exciting attacking talent.
According to the Times, the Red Devils initially planned to sign Haaland in the summer but will now instead try to push Salzburg into selling in January though they know any deal for him will cost more than £60m.
It certainly seems to be a lot of money for a relatively untested player even with his goalscoring record so far but he is a player Solskjaer knows well from their days together at Molde so it’s not a blind signing.
