Anthony Martial delivered a slice of the good stuff for Manchester United supporters during their club’s 3-0 win over Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night.
The Frenchman was at his slick, cutthroat, ‘these-people-have-families’ best, gliding past defenders whenever he was given the chance.
In the first half, with United 1-0 up, Martial took the ball and slalomed through a sea of black and white shirts, using them as markers almost, before poking the ball past the keeper, his defenders now on the floor, dumbfounded.
The numbers from his game tell only a part of the story.
Anthony Martial’s game by numbers vs. Partizan Belgrade:
5 passes into the box
4 ball recoveries
3 shots (1 on target)
2/4 take-ons
1 chance created

Sauce on spill. So much sauce. Dripping onto the floor, into the carpet, creeping into crevices. And this was not even Martial giving 100 per cent.
This was, in a game against poor opponents, a game in which Martial decided to pick and choose his moments, sometimes springing into life and at other times not really worrying about, well, anything, really.
That raw talent is magnetic. It makes others better. Daniel James and Marcus Rashford are good but they are what I would call ‘thrust’ players – the kind of players who really grunt and wince.
Martial, on the other hand, is all groove. And, my god, how good does it look in full flow.
