Solskjaer defends this big decision amid anger from Man Utd fans

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has defended his decision to play youngsters much to the annoyance of some fans.

The legendary Norwegian has come under fire of late as his side sat at 14th place in the Premier League before this weekend’s round of fixtures began.

United have had an injury crisis to deal with but Solskjaer’s thin squad has needed young players to step up and fill in the gaps.

Even if academy stars are taken out of the equation, the likes of Scott McTominay, Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all make up the core part of the former striker’s team.

Poor performances have plagued the Red Devils this season but Solskjaer insists it’s not the time to throw away his philosophy.

According to Sky Sports, Solskjaer said: “You have to be brave. You have to trust your players and trust the kids.

“We need results as soon as possible. We need a result against Norwich. But then again we are in the situation we are.

“We made the decision to start the transition and that transition period has been difficult but I think the young kids are going to learn from it.

“You want to win, you want to win trophies and win in a certain style. But you also want to do it with young kids.

“That’s the DNA we have. We do give young players a chance and you won’t really know about them until you throw them into deep water and see if they can swim. Those boys so far have done really well.”

It’s unclear whether this is what Solskjaer has always wanted to do or whether he’s been forced into the situation by the lack of investment from the board.

Manchester United only signed three players last summer despite it being the start of his reign and the need for transfers was apparent.

Solskjaer would’ve more than likely have wanted more signings but for whatever reason, he didn’t get them.
