Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Liverpool v Arsenal
Venue: Anfield, Liverpool
Kick-Off (UK Time): 19:30 30/10/2019
—–
Here’s how we rate the Arsenal players:
Emiliano Martinez – 3
It wasn’t a night for goalkeepers and for Emiliano Martinez in particular. The Argentinean stopper couldn’t have done much more to keep out some of the goals this evening but he certainly should’ve done better with both of Divock Origi’s strikes.
Hector Bellerin – 6
He put in a decent performance. Hector Bellerin is improving with each passing match and it was good to see the Spaniard get another 90 minutes under his belt.
Rob Holding – 5
Rob Holding has put in better performances. The Englishman was error-prone at times this evening and his passing was uncharacteristically sloppy.
Shkodran Mustafi – 4
Shkodran Mustafi had the worst possible start to this match with that own goal. The German’s night did improve but not by a great deal.
Sead Kolasinac – 5
He has been better. Sead Kolasinac was quiet in the first half but saw a little more of the ball after that. He didn’t look up to the test and his late substitution could provide an explanation as to why.
Sub: Kieran Tierney (83′) – 6
He did well enough in the closing minutes. Kieran Tierney put in a couple of trademark crunching tackles.
Lucas Torreira – 7
Lucas Torreira put in a decent performance in midfield. He took his goal well and popped up in a number of different areas across the pitch. His touch and passing was reliable and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him step into the first-team this week given the Granit Xhaka controversy.
Sub: Dani Ceballos (70′) – 6
He did okay. Dani Ceballos kept the ball well enough in the final 20 minutes.
Joe Willock – 8
Joe Willock really grew into this match. He started slowly but was one of Arsenal’s biggest attacking threats in the second half. He scored a wonderful goal and very nearly added a few more to go with it. It was encouraging to see after he was taken off in the first half of last week’s Europa League match.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 7
Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ best moments came in an attacking sense. He grabbed a goal and had a major role in another to cap a solid attacking performance. The Englishman had some shakier moments at the other end. He was slow to react to danger in the run-up to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s goal.
Bukayo Saka – 7
He won’t grab the headlines but Bukayo Saka impressed on that right flank. He grabbed an impressive assist to cap a hardworking and combative performance. Another 90 minutes for the 18-year-old can only be a good thing.
Mesut Ozil – 9
What a performance from Mesut Ozil. He was at his exceptional best on the night and oozed class with every single touch of the ball. The playmaker did what he does best, creating chances and starting moves. His assist for Ainsley Maitland-Niles was the highlight of a memorable night for the former Madrid man. Let’s hope that his substitution is an indication that he will be starting the Premier League on Saturday.
Sub: Matteo Guendouzi (65′) – 6
It was a shame to see Mesut Ozil leave the pitch tonight but Matteo Guendouzi steadied the ship. The Frenchman impressed in the centre of the park and brought some much-needed balance to the midfield. The only issue was that he should’ve done a little better with that fifth goal.
Gabriel Martinelli – 8
It was another stellar performance from Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian just has a knack of scoring goals and added another two to his growing Arsenal tally. He could have scored a few more in the second half but that shouldn’t detract from what was yet another impressive performance.
