Manchester United host Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday desperately needing to produce a positive performance to lift the mood around the club.
United head into the game in the bottom half of the table, having collected just nine points from their first eight games this season.
It is the club’s worst start in 30 years and another poor result will undoubtedly crank up the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils are priced at 7/2 in the 888 online football betting to win the game, odds that highlight just how far they have fallen behind their biggest rivals.
Their 4-0 demolition of Chelsea on the opening day seems a long time ago and they will be eager to rediscover that level of form against Liverpool.
Solskjaer could have a stronger squad at his disposal, with a number of top players closing in on a return to first team action after injury.
Anthony Martial may come into contention after recovering from a thigh injury, while Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof are also expected to be available for selection.
Martial’s injury hit United particularly hard, with the team scoring just five goals in eight games during his absence.
While United have been struggling for any semblance of form, Liverpool have swept all before them this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s have a 100 percent record after eight matches and have opened up an eight-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the standings.
They have received a major boost ahead of the game, with first choice goalkeeper Alisson in line for a recall after recovering from a calf injury.
Mohamed Salah is also expected to shake of an ankle problem to leave Klopp without any major injury concerns for the trip to Manchester.
Despite their current struggles, United will take heart from the fact they have been beaten by Liverpool just once in their last 10 Premier League meetings.
United overcame injuries to secure a goalless draw when the teams last met at Old Trafford back in February and they were probably unfortunate not to pick up all three points on that occasion.
Having played poorly at Newcastle United in their most recent outing, Solskjaer’s side certainly have a point to prove against Liverpool.
Although the league leaders currently boast a perfect record, they have been unconvincing in some of their games and United should not fear facing them.
While United’s fans are rightly unhappy about the club’s ownership, Sunday’s game provides a perfect opportunity for the team to put all that to one side and produce a performance the fans can be proud of.
Prediction: United look too big at 7/2 on their own patch and look a good bet to grab a narrow victory.
